The Wumpus world is a 4x4 grid of squares. The world contains a pile of gold, unknown number of pits, and a Wumpus. Each of the items is in one of the squares. No squares can contain two items at the same time. The goal for the Walker is to get the pile of gold and return to the beginning position without going into any pits or wumpus or going off the grid. The Walker initially starts at the bottom left corner of the grid and can only move from square to another adjacent square.

As it goes to the next square, the robot will receive different kinds of signal if it is next to a wumpus, pit, or gold. If the Walker receives a smell, a Wumpus is in an adjacent square. If the Walker receives a breeze, one pit or more are in the adjacent squares. If the Walker receives a glitter, a gold is in an adjacent square.

The Walker has an arrow which can kill the Wumpus and leave an empty square. To successfully eliminate the Wumpus, the Walker has to be facing the Wumpus in the adjacent square and display an LCD message which states that the arrow has been shot. When the Walker comes back after obtaining the gold, it will not receive any signals so it has to remember the safe squares.

The Walker wins the game when it carries the gold and returns to the bottom left corner of the grids. The Walker loses the game when it steps into any pits, the Wumpus or off the board.
